To overcome means to defeat or succeed in controlling or dealing with something. It also means to conquer, defeat, subdue, reduce, overthrow, it means to get the better of by force or strategy, gaining mastery
John 16:33 : “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
WHY DO I HAVE TO LIVE THE OVERCOMING LIFE? This is because we have an adversary looking to devour us. 1 Peter 5:8-9 categorically tells us:
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
HOW CAN I LIVE THE OVERCOMING LIFE?
1. I MUST BE BORN OF GOD – 1 John 5:4-5 “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”
2. THE GREATER ONE DWELLS IN ME – 1 John 4:4 “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world”
3. I MUST CAST ALL MY CARES ON HIM – 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”
4. PUT GOD FIRST – 2 Corinthians 2:14: “And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.”
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I LIVE THE OVERCOMING LIFE? God will cause you to win always. See 2 Corinthians 2:14:
“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.”
